Our commitment

We're committed to helping everyone reach their full health potential. Health care needs differ from person to person, and from community to community.
Improving health must go beyond only offering quality care. It requires listening and collaborating to make it easier for North Carolinians to find services like mental health care, maternal support, and infant care, no matter where they live. It also requires provider incentives to move into rural and underserved communities.

Ways to improve health care access
- Investing in data to learn about the health challenges of members and sharing that information across the health care system.
- Using technology and stakeholder relationships to improve maternal and child health care outcomes.
- Working with mental health providers so that North Carolinians can find the right kind of support, with a provider they trust.
- Leading actionable conversations about health care affordability and coverage for many people across the state.
Our priorities
Health care intervention
We're working with data scientists to identify communities where health outcomes could be improved through strategic, localized solutions.
Health care access
We're increasing access to health care in rural areas.
Health outcomes
We're studying where North Carolinians have difficulty accessing resources essential for health and well-being and working to address individual needs of our customers and communities.
Community impact
We're working with community leaders to make our neighborhoods healthier.
Mindful communication
We're committed to communication that makes the most impactful and relevant health care information clear, engaging, and easily available to our audiences.
Creating healthier NC communities

We’re determined to create healthier NC communities. Our investments and partnerships with underserved communities will improve:
- Maternal health: Increase the number of doulas and community health workers.
- Mental health: Increase access to mental health care education and community outreach.
- Food security: Increase child, adult, and senior access to nutritious food in high-poverty and rural areas.
- Diabetes: Increase Type 2 Diabetes awareness through educational programming and community resources.
- Economic mobility: Support organizations working to build North Carolina's workforce, especially in health care fields.

Our continued efforts
- Aim to improve outcomes in maternal and child health care by 50%.
- Improve access to mental health in communities that have limited support resources by 25%.
- Develop year-round, targeted marketing campaigns focused on improving health outcomes for all North Carolinians.
- Collect self-reported data to improve our insights into member health outcomes.
