Reimbursement Policy: Physical Status Modifiers for Anesthesia Services
Effective October 1, 2024, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (Blue Cross NC) will apply a revision to the reimbursement policy Anesthesia Services, Professional and Facility.
Consistent with CMS, Blue Cross NC will no longer offer additional reimbursement for the use of physical status modifiers. There is no change required for provider billing, however providers may continue to submit physical status modifiers for informational reporting purposes. Please see the related policy (PDF) for more information.
This change will apply to Commercial, Inter-Plan Program (IPP) Host, State Health Plan and Federal Employee Program (FEP). This will not apply to IPP Home.
