Update to New Provider Enrollment Delays

As previously communicated, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (Blue Cross NC) is experiencing significant delays in enrolling new providers. We are working diligently to return to normal inventory turnaround times for new enrollments. We continue to add new enrollment staff, introduce automation and will be implementing various system enhancements to increase operational efficiency.

The provider enrollment step is only one part of a multi-step process that providers must complete to access and serve Blue Cross NC members as in-network providers.  Credentialing, enrollment and contracting must all be completed. Please note, the credentialing process is not delayed, and we comply with state regulations on credentialing timelines when the required information is provided. All requests are being completed in the order that they were received, and the enrollment process is as follows:

  • Prior to enrolling, providers must complete the credentialing process.
  • After providers are credentialed, they must then submit for enrollment. This is the portion of the process where we are experiencing significant delays.
  • Once enrolled, providers must complete the contracting step in the process. If a practitioner is being added to an already enrolled and contracted group, to facilitate your ability to submit claims during this time, a credentialed practitioner or group may submit an Enrollment Pending Claims Filing Exception form (PDF) which will facilitate claims payment before the practitioner is linked to a group and enrollment is completed. Please see the FAQs for additional information.

We value your participation in the Blue Cross NC network and look forward to working together to serve our members. Thank you.
