Primary Care Provider Selection Initiative Updates

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (Blue Cross NC) recently expanded a new feature in our member portal, Blue Connect, that encourages new and renewing, individual, under-65 and commercial group members to select a primary care provider (PCP). Please see below for updates related to this initiative.

Copay Waivers for Some Members with their Select PCP

Effective January 1, 2021, select Blue Cross NC members have no copay for their first three visits when visiting their PCP on file. This benefit is available to our Administrative Services Only (ASO), fully insured, and fully insured individual under-65 groups with a copay for office visits.

Finding a Member’s Selected PCP on Blue e

Blue e, our provider portal, will display a member’s selected PCP information on the health eligibility screen. This information is currently available for State Health Plan members and is expected to expand to our other lines of business by March 2021.

The Blue Distinction Center (BDC) program will be displayed within the health eligibility messaging. Providers can log into the Blue e portal, enter a Member ID and view all the member’s benefit information.

If you are a member’s selected PCP and plan to be out-of-office for an extended period of time, please advise the member to make a PCP selection change so they receive the benefit. Members can log in to their Blue Connect account at www.BlueCrossNC.com or call the customer service number on the back of their member ID card. You can also provide them with this guide for step-by-step instruction (PDF) on how to easily select a PCP with the new Blue Connect feature.

If members have a benefit attached to their PCP Selection, we will include benefit detail in the Physician section of the member’s benefits tab.

As always, the information displayed within Blue e will be described in the Help section of the site.
