What you need to register
Before you start, you'll need to get a few things ready, including:
- Your member ID card
- An email address
- A phone number
No member ID card? No problem. You'll have an option to register using personal information.
You must have an active Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (Blue Cross NC) plan to get a code. If you just purchased your plan, it could take up to 48 hours to verify your enrollment.
Registration steps
Before you can sign in to Blue Connect, you have to get registered.
Find your plan
Pick the type of plan you have and if you prefer to use your member ID card or personal information to continue signing up.
Add your information
Depending on your registration preference from Step 1, you'll continue registering using one of the following ways:
- Entering your subscriber ID, the 2-digit member code from your member ID card, and your first and last name
- Adding your personal information, including your first and last name, date of birth, and the last 4 digits of your social security number (SSN).
Set up your account
You'll be asked to create a username and password that meet security requirements. You'll also:
- Add your email address
- Set up paperless delivery
- Enter your mobile number
Verify your email address
A one-time code will be sent to the email address you entered when you set up your account.
Open the email to view your code, and then enter the code in the Security Code field.
Select a login verification method
A login verification is an added measure to keep your information safe. You'll be asked to confirm your identity through one of these methods for all future logins:
- Receive a code sent by text message
- Receive voice message via a phone call
- Use your fingerprint or facial recognition software on your device
- Receive a code via an authenticator app, such as Microsoft Authenticator or Google Authenticator
Complete your login verification and go to your portal
When you have finished your selected verification method, your registration will be complete. Select Go to Member Portal Home to enter your Blue Connect member portal.
Frequently asked questions
Authenticator apps are an extra layer of security for online accounts. They add a second step of verification when signing in. This means that in addition to a password, members also need to enter a security code that is generated by the app on their phone.
Free authenticator apps, such as Microsoft Authenticator or Google Authenticator, can be downloaded from Google Play or the Apple App Store – depending on the type of phone used.
If trying to register using a member ID card:
- Confirm the correct type of plan has been selected.
- Confirm the member ID, first name, and last name being entered exactly match what is on printed on the card.
- Call 888-705-7050 Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM for additional help.
If trying to register with personal information:
- Confirm the correct type of plan has been selected.
- Try to register using a member ID card.

Yes. Medicare members can register for Blue Connect up to 30 days before the plan's effective date. Members with any other plan type are eligible to register up to 3 months before the plan's effective date.
