Already know you want to enroll in or waive a student health insurance plan?

Each year, you must visit your Student Blue web portal to enroll in health insurance coverage, or to provide proof of coverage under a parent's plan or other insurer, before you can waive coverage with Student Blue.

The following is a summary of some of the insurance coverage restrictions for student health plans. A full explanation and listing of restrictions can be found in your Benefit Booklet. 

Your health benefit plan does not cover services, supplies, drugs, or charges that are:

  • Not medically necessary
  • For injury or illness resulting from an act of war
  • For personal hygiene and convenience items
  • For inpatient admissions that are primarily for diagnostic studies
  • For palliative or cosmetic foot care
  • For investigative or experimental purposes
  • For cosmetic services or cosmetic surgery except as specifically covered by your health benefit plan
  • For custodial care, domicillary care or rest cures
  • For treatment of obesity, except for surgical treatment of morbid obesity, or as specifically covered by your health benefit plan
  • For reversal of sterilization
  • For treatment of sexual dysfunction not related to organic disease
  • For conception by artificial means
  • For self-injectable drugs in the provider’s office

Deductibles, coinsurance, limitations, and exclusions apply to your coverage. Further details of coverage, limitations, and exclusions, and terms under which your policy can be continued in force will be provided in your benefit booklet. 

Log in to your Blue Connect℠ member portal  to find details specific to your plan.

If you're already covered by a health plan other than Student Blue, you can request a waiver for your student health plan.

Waive the university plan by submitting evidence of coverage. You must complete all steps of the waiver and get a confirmation email.

You will need: 

  • Your student ID number (located on your student ID card). 
  • Your current insurance information, including insurer name, phone number, and policy number.

Important Note: To have your waiver approved and the charge removed from your account, you must submit proof of creditable health insurance coverage that was effective on or before February 1, 2026.
