Reminder: Important changes to Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina prior authorization drug requests, effective January 25, 2024
This is a reminder that Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (Blue Cross NC) is enhancing our ability to accept prior authorization requests electronically.
What does this mean for providers?
For medical drug requests:
- Effective January 25, 2024, providers should submit all medical drug requests through the MHK portal (accessed via Blue e) instead of through CoverMyMeds (CMM).
- CoverMyMeds (CMM) will stop accepting medical drug requests for Blue Cross NC members on February 20, 2024.
Pharmacy drug requests are now more enhanced and can be submitted through any of the following methods:
- MHK (accessed via Blue e) – Preferred
- CMM
- SureScripts
MHK has training resources available. SureScripts has provider education available.
