On February 28, 2023, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (Blue Cross NC) announced that effective March 15, 2023, behavioral health referrals would be insourced through our Behavioral Health Care Navigation department. As a reminder, our team of Care Navigators will support the referral lifecycle, with responsibility for:
Accepting a referral, member outreach if additional information is needed for a referral and matching the referral to a behavioral health provider that closely matches the member’s needs and criteria.
Providing direct member communication when a behavioral health provider is identified.
Member follow-up to confirm that appointments are scheduled. And should a member need help with scheduling, Care Navigators will assist.
Member follow-up to determine their experience with the identified behavioral health provider to ensure a good match.
Demonstration, Resources, and Support
To help providers become familiar with these services, we will host a webinar on the dates listed below. During the sessions, Blue Cross NC will demonstrate completing a referral form and host Q&A sessions. Note, the webinar is not limited to providers. If provider support staff have responsibility for this very important activity, they are welcome to attend.
