Blue Cross NC introduces RemediChain, Matching Patients in Need with Unused, Donated Medication

As of January 6, 2023, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (Blue Cross NC) has established a relationship with RemediChain (Good Shepherd Medication Management).

RemediChain is a non-profit funded by grants that reclaims unused drugs from patients, hospitals and providers and redistributes via mail order pharmacies to patients in need from across the country.

RemediChain operates through Good Shepherd Medication Management, a credentialed dispensing pharmacy for North Carolina, and is not restricted by the North Carolina Board of Pharmacy.

The costs are free – there are no administration costs to payers or patients. The claim for the reclaimed drug is NOT processed to a health plan. The patient themself is enrolled in the RemediChain program. In order to accomplish this, RemediChain primarily works with providers to set up the member for the program, and then RemediChain makes contact with the member.

Please share this program with your patients.

Unopened, unexpired medication in original packaging is eligible for donation. RemediChain pharmacists inspect and certify every donation so it can be safely and legally redistributed to vulnerable patients. Opened bottles, controlled substances, and temperature-controlled medications are not eligible for donation.

RemediChain currently is primarily for chemotherapy drugs but has expanded to include other types of specialty medications as well.

All donations are reviewed by the RemediChain team to ensure they can be matched before they are accepted.

By donating unused, unopened meds to Remedichain, you can help provide life-saving medications to a patient in need and help keep our environment green.

To donate their unused medications or request unused medications for themselves, patients can visit Donate My Meds
