Blue Cross NC invites providers to educate patients about RemediChain

RemediChain – matching patients in need with unused, donated medication

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (Blue Cross NC) introduced RemediChain (Good Shepherd Medication Management) earlier this year to providers.

RemediChain is a non-profit, funded by grants, that reclaims unused drugs from patients, hospitals, and providers and redistributes via their mail-order pharmacy to patients in need from across the country.

RemediChain operates through Good Shepherd Medication Management, a registered dispensing pharmacy for North Carolina.

During the initial pilot with Blue Cross NC, almost 100 medications were donated and matched in North Carolina through RemediChain, totaling $1.1 million in medication provided at no cost to patients in need.

Your collaboration is important to us and our members. Please share this valuable program with your patients and support staff. Additional information is included below and in the linked flyer and postcard PDFs.

Requesting medications

RemediChain primarily dispenses chemotherapy drugs.

The medication is free – there are no administration costs to payers or patients. The claim for the reclaimed drug is NOT processed to Blue Cross NC or its members.

The member will need to contact RemediChain at Donate My Meds to enroll in receiving free medication. If RemediChain has the member’s needed medication on hand, they will reach out to the provider for the prescription, and then overnight the medication to the member.

Donating medications

RemediChain makes it easy to donate medication through their mobile-friendly website, Donate My Meds.

By donating unused, unopened medication to RemediChain, you can help provide life-saving medications to a patient in need and help keep our environment green.

About RemediChain

Unopened, unexpired medication in original packaging is eligible for donation. RemediChain pharmacists inspect and certify every donation so it can be safely and legally redistributed to vulnerable patients. Opened bottles, controlled substances, and temperature-controlled medications are not eligible for donation.

RemediChain primarily accepts chemotherapy drugs. All donations are reviewed by a Licensed Pharmacist on site inspecting each donation to ensure that it is safe to redistribute before sending the medication back out into the community.
