Help for Members with Delayed ID Cards: Digital ID Cards Available on Blue Connect January 04, 2021 Products & Programs

At the start of a new plan year, it’s especially important for members to present their new health insurance ID card each time they see a provider or fill a prescription. This ensures claims are processed correctly, according to members’ plan benefits.

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (Blue Cross NC) makes every attempt to distribute ID cards before the new year begins, though sometimes this process is delayed. And with the United States Postal Service experiencing unprecedented volume due to the pandemic and the holidays, we want to be sure our members have access to their policy information, if their cards are delayed.

If your patients have not yet received their ID cards, or if you simply want to advise them on the possibility of a delay, please share this Blue Connect registration guide [PDF]. It promotes Blue Connect as a back-up option for members to access their ID card and provides detailed instructions on how to register.  We hope this helps give your patients peace of mind as we enter a new plan year together.

  • Members already registered in Blue Connect: Members can log into Blue Connect to view their new 2021 ID card and plan information.
  • Members not registered in Blue Connect: If members don’t yet have a Blue Connect account, they do NOT need an active ID card in hand to register for Blue Connect. Existing members can register using their 2020 subscriber ID. New members who have not yet received a Blue Cross NC ID card can use an alternate registration process to register (shown in this registration guide).

The information listed below can help members know what to do if they need to seek care or fill a prescription before their ID card arrives.

What to do if your ID card hasn’t yet arrived:
