If you're in need of life-saving medical intervention, you can be treated at the nearest appropriate medical facility.
The Blue Cross Blue Shield Global Solutions medical assistance team will contact your treating doctor and closely monitor your case to determine if medical evacuation is necessary.

- The insured person’s name. This is the Subscriber Name on the front of your Blue Cross NC member ID card and could be a student or a parent.
- The insured person’s ID number. This is the Subscriber ID on the front of your Blue Cross NC member ID card.
- The name of your Blue Cross Blue Shield Global Solutions program: "Blue Cross Blue Shield North Carolina NC MERE Companion."
- The name of your Blue Cross NC health plan. You can find it on the front of your Blue Cross NC member ID card at the top.
- The name of your school.
- Detailed information about the nature of the emergency.
- The name and contact details for the treating doctor and / or hospital, if applicable.
- The insured / injured person’s specific location within the country you're visiting. Use your phone's GPS if available.
Before you travel, we recommend you take a picture of your Blue Cross NC member ID card or save your card to your mobile wallet. You should also save the emergency care steps with contact numbers and plan name.
Important: Use of these benefits must be coordinated and approved by Blue Cross Blue Shield Global Solutions. Contact your health plan administrator for more details about your certificate of coverage.
