Medicare Blue FlexCard

Access certain Medicare benefits and rewards in one card.

The Blue FlexCard is available for members of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (Blue Cross NC) Medicare Advantage plans. Depending on your plan, the card may include rewards and over-the-counter (OTC) and vision allowances.
Using your card


Medicare Advantage plan members receive their card in the mail when they enroll. Before you can start using your card, you'll have to activate it through the Blue FlexCard portal or by calling the number on the Blue FlexCard.

After your plan's start date, visit the Supplemental Benefits section on the Blue Cross NC member portal Coverage page. From there, you can shop online, manage your allowances, and find participating stores near you.1

Blue FlexCard allowances

The Blue FlexCard gives you access to many allowances all on one convenient card. The allowance amount varies by plan. Log in to the Blue Cross NC member portal or review your plan's Evidence of Coverage in the Medicare Forms Library to see your plan's allowance amount.
Over-the-counter allowance

Buy health and wellness items from the OTC catalog or use your Blue FlexCard in-store at participating retailers, including Harris Teeter, Walmart, and more.1 2
Vision allowance

Purchase your prescription glasses and contact lenses at any eyewear store – including your eye doctor or favorite online eyewear retailer.2
Managing your card

If your plan has an OTC allowance, a set amount is loaded onto your card each quarter. You can buy your health and wellness items from the OTC catalog online or by phone to ship directly to your home. Or use your Blue FlexCard in-store at participating retailers.1 2

Log into the Blue FlexCard portal to shop for OTC items online, check your account balance, check your reward dollars, or find participating retailers near you.
