Why preventive care is so important to your health

Your primary care provider (PCP) knows your health care needs best. That’s why scheduling your Annual Wellness Visit,1 Welcome to Medicare Visit,2 or Annual Routine Physical with your PCP is so important. Whether your PCP is a doctor, nurse practitioner, or physician assistant, they work with you to:

  • Assess and monitor your health 
  • Conduct screenings and administer essential vaccines 
  • Discuss your health risk factors and strategies to best manage them
  • Schedule this visit with your PCP.
  • Specifically mention that you are scheduling an Annual Wellness Visit, Welcome to Medicare Visit, or Annual Routine Physical in order to qualify for your $50 preventive care reward.
  • To ensure you and your provider can focus on preventive care, make sure you aren't sick or in pain on the day of your preventive visit. If you are, communicate this with your provider so they can treat what ails you. Be sure to reschedule your annual preventive visit for another day.
  • Talk with your PCP about any challenges you’re having with mobility, balance, or risk of falling, and ask about ways to stay safe and active.
  • Mention if you’ve noticed occasional leaks or changes in bladder habits even if they seem minor.
  • Share how your health impacts your ability to complete everyday activities — such as bathing, dressing, preparing meals, or managing medications — so you can get the support you need.
  • Ask about ways to maintain your physical and emotional well‑being, including managing pain, staying active, and reducing stress.
  • Review any concerns about your cognition or memory, and ask whether a screening may be helpful.
Your plan may provide $0 transportation to your visit!

Claim your $50 preventive care reward in three easy steps

To claim your reward:

  1. Attend your preventive care visit
  2. Log in to the Blue Cross NC member portal to report your visit4
  3. Receive $50 on your Blue FlexCard5
No one knows your care needs better than your PCP

Your PCP knows your health history, current health conditions, risk factors, and your prescription medications. Whenever you seek care, it’s important to start with the provider who knows you best to avoid unnecessary provider visits or potential negative medication interactions. Based on what they know about you, they can also refer you for additional care with the right provider for your unique needs.

Stay ahead of your health with preventive screenings

Your care team may suggest one or more preventive screenings during your regular care. These tests can find health problems early, sometimes before you feel any symptoms. Getting screened can help you feel more confident about your health. Many people get these screenings as part of their routine care.

If you already have a member account, great! If not, we encourage you to create one. It’s the easiest way to track rewards as well as complete common tasks, such as finding care, managing bills, contacting customer care, and much more.

Disclosures:

  1. Members may have costs for other services not related to their Annual Wellness Visit. Please allow 12 weeks for claim processing before receiving your reward. Reward offer is available for a limited time only and is subject to change at any time. All federal, state and local taxes on rewards, if applicable, are the sole responsibility of the member. Members should consult their tax professional on the tax treatment of rewards.

  2. A Welcome to Medicare Visit must occur within the first 12 months of Medicare Part B coverage. You do not need the Welcome to Medicare Visit to qualify for an Annual Preventive Visit.

  3. Limited number of one-way rides available on select plans. Must use designated provider.

  4. You can also let us know you’ve completed a preventive care visit by calling the Blue FlexCard Call Center at 844-428-9837 (TTY: 711), 7 days a week, 8 AM – 8 PM ET. You must attest by 1/31/2027 that you completed your visit in order to receive your reward.

  5. The Blue FlexCard is issued by Stride Bank, N.A., Member FDIC, pursuant to license by Mastercard International. Stride Bank is an independent company offering debit card services and is solely responsible for its products.
