Robin recounts how Maxie B’s, the Greensboro bakery/cafe she started and has managed for more than 40 years, wasn’t planned – but instead was “a happy accident.” It all began with Robin baking cakes at home and then taking them to the bakery to sell by the slice, “… and today we have Maxie B’s because of it.”

The bakery was never planned. I was expecting my son, began baking cakes at home. My husband grew tired of having too much sweet stuff around that tempted him. 

And so, I brought it to the bakery and just told the girls to sell it by the slice and we have Maxie B’s because of it.

Over the last 40 years, what I’ve come to realize is it’s not me. I don’t do this by myself.

I have an absolutely amazing team. 

I think my challenge is finding out how to make their lives work and be better for working here.

Maxie B’s isn’t just a bakery it’s a home for our team and a home for our community.
