Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (Blue Cross NC) is pleased to announce an important enhancement to the provider Itemized Bill Review, Inpatient Readmission and Facility Emergency Department Reconsideration Process.
Effective October 1, 2025, all reconsideration requests must be submitted exclusively through Blue e. This transition eliminates the need to download forms from our external website and submit them via mail or fax. Reconsideration requests received prior to October 1, 2025, will be processed under current procedures and are not subject to change.
In addition, effective October 1, 2025, providers will no longer receive Itemized Bill Review (IBR) provider notification letters by mail. Instead, all IBR provider notifications will only be available through Blue e.
As outlined in our May 2 Provider News, the timeframe to submit your requests remains unchanged. Providers will continue to have 90 calendar days to submit reconsideration requests.
This change is a direct response to provider feedback and is designed to:
- Simplify the process
- Eliminate paperwork and manual submissions
- Enable faster, more efficient communication
