Post-Service Provider Appeals Dates Extended January 07, 2022 Claims & Coding COVID-19

Jan. 7, 2022 Update: Provider appeals for billing/coding disputes and medical necessity claim determinations received January 10 – February 28, 2022, will be accepted if within 180 days of the claim adjudication date. 

Due to the recent spike in COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (Blue Cross NC), is extending the timeframe for submitting post-service provider appeals from 90 days to 180 days from the claim adjudication date.

This applies to Blue Medicare and Commercial lines of business. Provider appeals for billing/coding disputes and medical necessity claim determinations received September 20 - December 31, 2021 will be accepted if within 180 days of the claim adjudication date.
