On May 4, Governor Roy Cooper signed the COVID-19 Recovery Act (NCSL 2020-3) into law. Section 3#.1.(a) addresses the connection requirement to the state-designed HIE Network's NC HealthConnex, and extends the June 1, 2020 connection deadline until October 1, 2021.

Key Points

  • If you were mandated to connect to NC HealthConnex by June 1, 2020, your new deadline is October 1, 2021.
  • Providers who have signed a participation agreement do not need to take further action. The NC HealthConnex technical team will contact you when technical discussions are to begin with your practice.
  • This extension allows the large queue of health care providers who are actively onboarding to complete the connection process. Please note - connecting to NC HealthConnex can take up to 12 months, depending on your software.
  • It is important that providers who have not yet signed a participation agreement with the NC HIEA begin the process now as there are currently more than 5,000 health care facilities in onboarding. For more information, please join one of the monthly How to Connect calls.
