Fully insured

If you're fully insured, we'll underwrite your group’s medical expenses, as well as provide full administrative services. This is the simplest health plan coverage option for businesses.

Balanced funding

For groups with at least 12 eligible employees, balanced funding offers the advantages of a self-funded plan and the financial protection and predictable monthly payments of a fully insured plan.

Carolina HealthWorks

For groups with 2 to 50 employees, Carolina HealthWorks1 offers plan flexibility, choice, and competitive rates normally reserved for large companies. Monthly premium equivalents fund claims, plan administration, and stop loss premiums. Risk-based pricing provides potential savings compared to higher-cost community-rated options.

We partner with HealthEquity® to offer our members consumer-driven health plans (CDHPs) and group solutions. These CDHPs fully integrate with health plans and offer tax-favorable, cost-saving benefits.5

Health Savings Account (HSA)

  • Employer or employee funds with pre-tax dollars up to limits set by the IRS6
  • May be used for qualified medical expenses
  • Unused amounts roll over to the next year without penalty
  • Pair with any eligible high deductible health plan on any network
Limited Purpose Flexible Spending Account (LPFSA)

  • Employee funds with pre-tax dollars by voluntary salary reduction (employer may contribute)6
  • May be used to pay for eligible dental and vision expenses not covered by the insurance plan
  • A use-it-or-lose-it account – employee forfeits any balance remaining at end of year
Health Reimbursement Account (HRA)

  • Employer funds and owns the account
  • May only be used for qualified medical expenses
  • Employee is not required to participate in a high deductible health plan
Flexible Spending Account (FSA)

  • Employee funds with pre-tax dollars by voluntary salary reduction (employer may contribute)6
  • May be used for qualified medical expenses, equipment, and services
  • A use-it-or-lose-it account – employee forfeits any balance remaining at end of year
  • Employee is not required to participate in a high deductible health plan
Dependent Care Reimbursement Account (DCRA)

  • Employee funds with pre-tax dollars by voluntary salary reduction6
  • May be used to reimburse eligible expenses, including daycare, before / after school care, summer camps, and elder care for a parent living in the home
  • A use-it-or-lose-it account – employee forfeits any balance remaining at end of year
